THE FIRST MINI HOCKEY CLINIC DRAWS TO A CLOSE
EPIC HOCKEY STARS' first mini hockey clinic drew to a close on Saturday 02nd August to the excitement and disappointment of all.
From all concerned, the coaches, the parents and most importantly of all, the children, were of a common opinion, it was a great success.
The final Saturday session provided an opportunity for the parents to join their sons and daughters on the astro for a fun morning giving the parents time to see how their children had grown in strength and hockey skills. The commitment shown by the mums and dads outweighed that of the children and we are sure it made way for sore bodies the very next day, however the important thing - FUN was had by all!!
A prize giving was held at the end of the session in the pavilion where all the participating children received a certificate for their attendance and a selection of "Stars" to adorn their books and certificates.
Presents of appreciation were awarded to Yumna Sono for her commitment to the secretarial duties, Denise White for her expertise in arranging the kit, and Amanda and Angela for their commitment on the field with the children. Christy and Dom were commended for their presence every Saturday morning imparting their coaching skills.
The parents donated a gift and bouquet to Carol Whiteley for her hard work and commitment to the success of the club. Flowers were also presented to Amanda and Angela in appreciation of their attendance every Saturday, helping with coaching the younger players.
I would like to thank each and every one of you for all your continued support and appreciation for our first season running EPIC HOCKEY STARS. The players will only grow in strength and ability with your encouragement and for this, I thank you.
The children are benefitting from my passion and despite early Saturday mornings and bitterly cold weather at festivals they continue to participate with enthusiasm.
A special thank you to all of you for coming to play with your children on 2nd August, it means so much to them to see commitment from their parents.
Thank you to all those parents who provided snacks and juice for the occasion, always greatly appreciated.
Here's looking forward to next term.
Following a straight line of dribbling use the Indian dribbling technique to pull the ball right, away from an oncoming defender and then accelerate into the space keeping the ball close to the stick at all times.
EPIC HOCKEY STARS aims to become the most respected mini hockey development club in Gauteng.
The success of our first clinic has encouraged us to push on with plans for the future.
The coaches need a months' recovery period during the school holidays to re boost their energies for the next session.
We intend to offer the 5 - 8 year olds a Friday afternoon session and 9 - 11 year olds the Saturday morning session starting in September to take us through to the end of the year.
WHERE ARE THE BOYS?
Although Epic Stars was started primarily for the Roedean girls, we all agree it is the correct move in the future to bring in more boys to strengthen the girls' skills and provide the same opportunities for both sexes.
Management are considering options to provide display material and branded goods for the future Epic Hockey Stars for promotion of the club as well as a branded modern image for the children.
We are still looking for keen photographers to provide team pictures, individual pictures and action shots.
We end this newsletter on a sad note: Eight of the parents have not paid their fees for the last session, although enjoying all the benefits from the Epic Stars.
We find this very disappointing as our job is to train the children and provide them with a fun learning experience - NOT beg for money.
In preparation for the next season and ordering new kit we need to emphasise that all fees must be paid in full before we start a summer programme.
QUOTE FOR THE DAY
The path to success is to take the first step - then keep putting one foot in front of the other, one step at a time. The key to success is to keep aiming for your dream.
Beware of the dream stealers. The ones that warn you about: the failure, the heartache and the tears.
Ignore the dream stealers and keep striving forward towards your dream.
